Ever heard of Walking Palm trees?

Do the Palm trees walk?. Question is obviously confusing and unbelievable. But the fact is, this kind of palm trees move with their stilt like roots.

These trees are found in Tropical rainforest of South and Central America, Socratea exorrhiza grows from the base of stem and appears to have multiple legs.

When studying about this nature, it was found that, the tree moves from shade to sunlight by growing roots towards light and making old roots to lift in air and die.

This will happen once in two years and scientists determined the tree moves two or three centimeters per day.

However, some scientists say that, these trees would not walk actually and roots remain growing on other side, some old roots die off naturally.

These stilt roots allow the palm trees to grow taller, making the plant to reach sunlight thus, shortening the diameter of the stem.

Studies and research are still carried out to examine the nature of this tree growth and could be in one of the popular World news articles.
