Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu is the real name of “Mother Teresa“. However, the name Mother Teresa is a household name for her charity works and thus, she is included under the Names of famous people in World history.
Agnes was born to a comfortable family in Albania with good financial security.
From her childhood, she was fond of missionaries.
At the age of 18, she left her family, both mother and sister (father died when she was 8) and joined Sisters of Loreto in Ireland.
Agnes was transferred to the Sisters of Loreto convent in Darjeeling, India, after learning completely English in Ireland.
Sadly, she refused to look after her mother and sister, though she lived for 87 years.
Agnes continued her patron of missionaries to all sufferers, physically challenged people, people those sent out from families, unhealthy and non wealthier children.
As years passed, she extended her service to countless people around many states in India.
Though she was born and brought up from a well-settled family, her work towards charity forced her to face difficulties in surviving with no income, shortage of food, etc.
Later, she came to teach many poor and rich children about nutrition and hygiene.
In 1950, she started her own “Missionaries of Charity” , dedicated to “the hungry, the naked, the homeless, orphans, the blind, crippled“.
She was honored with many awards like Indian Padma Shri in 1962 and so on.
She continued her work by helping poor via “Missionaries of Charity” until she passed away on September 5, 1997.
